On September 30, 2024, the Indian cricket team made history in their Test match against Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, by setting new benchmarks in Test cricket for the fastest team 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 runs in a single day.
The opening partnership between captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal was instrumental in achieving these records. The duo smashed the fastest 50 in just 3 overs, setting the tone for an aggressive innings. India continued its onslaught, reaching the 100-run mark in only 10.1 overs, breaking the previous record.
The momentum didn’t stop there. India raced to 150 runs in 18.2 overs, followed by 200 runs in 24.2 overs, and finally, 250 runs in 30.1 overs, setting a new benchmark for Test cricket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was the star of the innings, top-scoring with 72 runs, while Rohit Sharma's quick-fire 23 off just 11 balls laid the foundation for the team’s rapid progress. Their aggressive approach allowed India to declare their first innings at 285/9, putting them in a commanding position against Bangladesh, who managed only 233 runs in their first innings.
In addition to team achievements, Virat Kohli crossed 27,000 international runs, becoming the fastest Indian to reach this milestone. Ravindra Jadeja also picked up his 300th Test wicket, joining an elite group of all-rounders.
