'Aman' from Kal Ho Naa Ho is one of Shah Rukh Khan's most memorable roles, but he has played many memorable roles throughout the years. Nikkhil Advani, the film's director, recently disclosed that the actor had only read the opening page of the script and had instead skimmed other pages. He followed Advani's instructions and believed Karan Johar's writing, so he did it.
The King Khan film marked Nikkhil Advani's directorial debut, but the superstar said he had complete faith in him. "Shah Rukh went to Yash Johar and said, 'I will do another film with Dharma Productions only if Nikkhil directs it,'" he stated in an interview on the Cyrus Says YouTube channel, recalling the episode.
Nikkhil Advani shares how Shah Rukh Khan did not read the entire script of Kal Ho Na Ho's
Advani had a close relationship with him as an assistant director on the sets of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham prior to the movie. As a result, the actor's faith helped the filmmaker start his career out on a high note.
As he acknowledged King Khan's enormous contribution, he declared, "I owe Shah Rukh a lot — I owe him my entire career as a director." The filmmaker also revealed that Khan was eager to try out parts other than love stories at that time, and they talked about it a lot on set.
Despite writing the film's script, Karan Johar handed Nikkhil the directing credit, which was a huge chance for him. The Pathaan actor didn't back down even though it was the first project. Instead, he trusted their vision and didn't read the screenplay carefully.
"Shah Rukh read the first page, skimmed over the interval point, and then went straight to the last page," Advani recalled. The entire script was not read by him. "I know Karan wrote it, and you're directing it, so I'm in good hands," he stated simply.
The 2003 movie Kal Ho Naa Ho is still regarded as a classic, and Khan's portrayal of Aman made us laugh, blush, and cry as we watched it. It eventually received critical acclaim and became a huge box office triumph.
