Mark Hamill is shown supervising a lethal journey in the trailer for the movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk.

Lionsgate's dystopian thriller film, directed by Francis Lawrence, opens in theatres on September 12. The cast is completed by Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Ben Wang, Charlie Plummer, Roman Griffin Davis, and Judy Greer.

The Long Walk centres on an annual competition where 100 teenage guys embark on the trek of the same name, which demands that they keep a fast pace. There is only one survivor at the end of the walk.

The teenagers are instructed to continue travelling "until there's only one of you left" in the caravan. JT Mollner wrote the screenplay for the film, which Lawrence directed (Strange Darling). The movie is based on King's 1979 book of the same name, which was first released under the pen name Richard Bachman. Steven Schneider, Cameron MacConomy, Roy Lee, and Lawrence are producing.

The first trailer for the film was seen by Hamill, Jonsson, and Lawrence at Lionsgate's CinemaCon presentation last month. Regarding the project, Hamill told the audience, "It's good to get out of your comfort zone, but the premise alone is nightmare-inducing." "If you can't be the hero, there's nothing better than being the villain," the actor said in reference to his role as the project's antagonist. You've done your job if you're jeered and hated by everyone.

Lawrence added that he was captivated to the unique notion and had been a long-time fan of the original work. The director said, "You can put yourself in one of the boys' shoes."
