Avatar: Fire and Ash | Official Trailer

The first trailer for James Cameron's third "Avatar" film, "Avatar: Fire and Ash," has been made public by Disney. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2025, three years after “Avatar: The Way of Water.”

Just like “The Way of Water” introduced the aquatic Metkayina clan of Pandora, “Fire and Ash” will debut a new group called the Ash People. Cameron took the stage at the 2024 D23 Expo to show the audience a teaser of the terrifying, soot-covered tribe dancing around a huge fire pit.

Cameron stated at the 2024 D23 Expo, "You'll see a lot more Pandora that you never saw before." During the presentation, Cameron stated, "It's a crazy adventure and a visual feast, but it also has very high emotional stakes, more than ever before." "For all the characters you know and love, we're entering really difficult territory."

Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Jack Champion, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Bailey Bass, Joel David Moore, Edie Falco, and Dileep Rao are among the returning cast members. Varang, the Ash People's leader, is portrayed by Oona Chaplin. Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis will also be joining the cast.

In the teaser, Jake Sully's family and the Metkayina are shown banding together to combat Varang and her flaming army, who have sided with Quaritch (Lang). Parts of Pandora's forest are burned down by Varang's fires, suggesting that she has the power to control fire. At the end of the trailer, she says menacingly, "Your goddess has no dominion here."

Cameron originally intended for "The Way of Water" and "Fire and Ash" to be one film, but after writing started and a huge plot developed, he divided them into two distinct films. He made a suggestion at D23 that the Ash People are more aggressive and power-hungry than the Omaticaya, who live in forests, and the Metkayina.
