But what makes the film watchable? Here's our full review of Ananya Pandey and Vihaan Samat's latest Netflix feature, CTRL.
Netflix's CTRL Plot:
Influencer in social media Nella Awasthi, also known as Ananya Panday. Following their romantic involvement with Joe Mascarenhas (Vihaan Samat) during their time in college, the two established a page on their page called NJoy, where they produce lifestyle videos. Nella discovers Joe cheating on her while live-vlogging to see how he reacts to her surprising him at a local pub where he is mingling with a group of tech enthusiasts, just minutes before their fifth anniversary. Social media is ablaze with her fury and reaction to it. Because brands would rather have them together, Nella loses all of her brand partnerships and becomes a meme.
Nella finds a link to a website that can assist her in taking charge of her life as she attempts to move on from the breakup. She can select her own AI character, who will assist her in taking charge of her life, after logging in. Nella gets assistance from the AI figure she calls Allen to digitally erase Joe from all of their pictures and recordings. At the same time, Nella manages to put her life back 'on track'.
Nella finds out that Joe is missing just as things are starting to go smoothly. It is soon discovered that he has passed away.
CTRL's Review: "Different, Thrilling, and Goofy"
With an original and thought-provoking subject, CTRL is an intriguing movie. It also demonstrates how we, as internet users, have very little influence over our lives and that the things we see and do as a result are not always in line with our true desires. Vikramaditya Motwane, the director, skilfully and completely honestly builds the thriller drama.
The cuts, edits and graphics deserve special attention because they make CTRL a movie that is significantly distinct from the rest of the typical movies we generally witness. The majority of CTRL's humorous moments are inspired by real-life events. The AI character has been skilfully created. Yes, it's corny, oddball, and flirtatious, but it also carries a feeling of unease.
