The film, which takes place in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka during the Kadambas of Banavasi's rule, is hailed as a man's investigation into the intertwined experiences of nature and divinity. In Kantara (2022), this was first hinted at as the origin of the ancestral conflict.

From Banavasi, the Kadamba dynasty ruled over the Konkan and northern Karnataka. Maharaja Mayurasharma established the dynasty in 345 CE, and it lasted until its dissolution in 540 CE.

Panjurli Daiva and Guliga Daiva are two deities that are well-known from the shamanistic Hindu dance Buta Kola, which is worshipped in Karnataka, according to Tulu folklore.

According to popular belief, Panjurli is a boar-like demigod who guards people and their crops. According to legend, a boar that was once adopted by Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati turned destructive as it grew older. As a result, Lord Shiva sent him to Earth and made him a god of protection.

However, Guliga Daiva is portrayed as a spirit that is far more fierce and strong than Panjurli. According to Guliga Daiva's legend, it was cursed by Lord Vishnu and sent to Earth, where it is frequently accused of bringing illness, bad luck, and chaos.

Rishab Shetty is the star, writer, and director of the mythological action thriller Kantara: Chapter 1. Ajaneesh Lokanath composed the music for the movie, which is scheduled for release in October of this year.
