MET Gala 2025 Spokesperson Responds to Bias Allegations Against Shah Rukh Khan & Diljit Dosanjh
Amid backlash, the MET Gala 2025 spokesperson addresses claims of bias involving Shah Rukh Khan and Diljit Dosanjh, breaking silence on the growing controversy.

Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Diljit Dosanjh made their much-awaited debuts at the 2025 Met Gala, which was a great occasion for South Asian participation on one of the largest international fashion venues. What ought to have been a joyous appearance, however, caused uproar on the internet.

During Vogue's red carpet broadcast, fans quickly noticed how little attention and screen time the stars received. A Vogue representative responded to the criticism by telling The New York Times that the abrupt break in the story "was certainly not intentional." They further emphasised that, in contrast to reports that his presence was disregarded, emcee Ego Nwodim had recognised Shah Rukh as the first male Bollywood actor to walk the Met red carpet.

Inspired by the creativity and artistry of Black fashion, this year's Met Gala theme was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Even though South Asian culture wasn't specifically the event's theme, the attendance of Indian celebrities Shah Rukh, Diljit Dosanjh, Priyanka Chopra, and Kiara Advani was viewed as a big step towards more global diversity. However, many were upset with how the coverage was carried out.

People on social media expressed their annoyance by pointing out that Diljit was only on camera for a brief moment before the stream shifted to another famous person. Shah Rukh's time on the carpet, meanwhile, appeared to go unnoticed until designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee intervened and informed the hosts about his global fan base and his decades-long impact on Indian cinema.

The performers made strong fashion statements in spite of the media's lack of attention. Shah Rukh wore a sophisticated black outfit designed by Sabyasachi that included a silk crepe de chine shirt, fitted pants, a floor-length Tasmanian superfine wool coat and monogrammed Japanese horn buttons. Even Khloé Kardashian allegedly liked his style, which was enhanced by piled jewellery.

In an ivory Prabal Gurung ensemble, Diljit exuded grandeur on the red carpet. The Maharaja of Patiala served as the inspiration for the costume, which included a magnificent cape embroidered with the Punjab map in Gurmukhi lettering. He defeated fashion giants like Zendaya and Rihanna to win Vogue's Best Dressed vote, which was widely acclaimed for its ability to merge culture with couture.
