Pat Cummins Shares Strong Opinion on New IPL Rules: "Never Pulled Out After Auction"
In a candid statement, Pat Cummins discusses the implications of the new IPL rules, emphasizing his commitment to the league. Discover his insights on player retention and the auction process that could reshape the future of IPL.

The captain of Australian team, Pat Cummins, reiterated that his top focus is representing his nation in Test cricket. He also mentioned that he has not yet made a decision regarding his participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League season (IPL).

After being acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore, Cummins became the second most expensive player in the tournament's history and guided the team to the IPL 2024 final. Each team may retain a maximum of six players (five capped players, including Indian and foreign players, and a maximum of two uncapped players) from their current roster via retention or by using the Right to Retain Players, ahead of the IPL 2025 season, which is scheduled for later this year.

Cummins is concentrated on representing the nation in the next five-test Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The pacer is aware of the new IPL regulations about foreign players, which state that they will be "ineligible to register in the following year's player auction" if they do not register for the player auction for that season.

In addition, if a player withdraws from the auction before the season begins, they will be banned for two seasons.

Pat Cummin's Comments On The New IPL Rules

"I'll figure out what this season entails in the near future. A small change has been made to the rules, although I'm not sure whether that would have had an impact on me previously as I've never withdrawn after the auction. But with the IPL, it's another thing to take into account," Cummins told The Sydney Morning Herald.

"I think you use those as your tent poles and figure out what else makes sense around them. Test cricket is the clear No. 1 priority, followed closely by the world cups.

“The calendar is never going to get any less busy, and I'm not going to get any younger, so these things have always been considerations, and moving forward will become even more so. But needless to say, playing cricket for Australia, particularly Test matches, is my number one job and priority," he added.

After India won the last two series in Australia, Cummins anticipates that the forthcoming home series will be another competitive match.

There has always been some attrition in the two home series I've played versus India. The final session at the Gabba on the final day of the final Test match decided the outcome of the series," he stated.

"It's important to remember that this is a lengthy series and could be closely contested right up to the final game, so you'll need to manage your resources well," the captain of Australia continued.
