Sai Pallavi Talks Differences Between Bollywood and South Film Industry, Highlights Room for Improvisation
Sai Pallavi shares her insights on the key differences between Bollywood and the South film industry, emphasizing the greater room for improvisation in regional cinema. The actress opens up about her experiences working in both industries.

Since its October 31 release, Amaran, which is based on the voyage of Major Mukund Varadarajan, has done well in theatres. Sivakarthikeyan, Sai Pallavi, Rahul Bose, and director Rajkumar Periasamy stopped by the Pinkvilla Masterclass for a light-hearted discussion following the film's enormous success.

The Ramayan actress spoke with one of her admirers throughout the conversation and thoroughly described the distinctions between Hindi and South movies. In contrast to Hindi cinema, Sai Pallavi revealed that South Indian films allow for more improvisation.

"But down south, it's a little more, you can improvise; there's a lot of room for improvisation," she remarked, referring to the amount of effort that goes into pre-production and how thorough it is while you film. There are moments when I think everything in Bollywood is ideal. I'm afraid a lot of things will have to alter if I want to improvise. That makes it slightly different in my opinion, but aside from that, it's essentially the same."

Sai Pallavi went on to point out yet another significant distinction between the two film businesses. "We have assistant directors, and there are still many of them who don't get paid as much as they do over here (Bollywood)," the Amaran actress stated. Because you know that everything is safe and okay, that's why you see that over here, when you're an assistant director, they stay and even come for the next movie."

However, I'm not sure if they receive or receive the compensation they are due down south. Therefore, it can be a little disheartening at times to realise that someone is talented and puts in a lot of effort, but they don't receive the compensation they deserve. Thus, that's an additional distinction I've noticed," Sai Pallavi said.

For those who are unaware, Sai Pallavi and Ranbir Kapoor will appear together on screen for the first time in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana. The film's two-part release was recently announced by the producers. 2026 will see the release of the first installment, while 2027 will see the release of the second.
