On Thursday, April 24, the makers of the upcoming Malayalam thriller Narivetta, starring Tovino Thomas, released the trailer. The Anuraj Manohar-directed movie is scheduled to open in theatres on May 16.

The film's trailer, which is allegedly based on a true tale, opens with Tovino's character, a police officer, getting handcuffed and pulled into an interrogation. As we find out shortly after, a hill station's tribal people are protesting against being forced from their homes, and tensions are rising between them and the police. When tensions increase, the police use violence to suppress the tribals, despite the efforts of Tamil actor Cheran's police inspector to engage in dialogue.

Only Tovino's character appears to have the guts to speak out against the horrors, but in a stunning turn of events, he is blamed for a protester's murder. The plan thickens as the authorities begin to suspect Maoist involvement. A gripping tale of the systematic injustice that Indian tribal people have endured is promised by the dramatic teaser.

The film, which was written by Abin Joseph, also stars Arya Salim, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Priyamvada Krishnan in important parts. The movie is noteworthy because it is Cheran's first Malayalam film.

The film features editing by Shameer Muhammad, cinematography by Vijay, and music composed by Jakes Bejoy. Narivetta is produced by Tippushan and Shiyas Hassan under the auspices of their Indian Cinema Company.
