During the whole Wicked press tour, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were sobbing uncontrollably. In the film, the pair portray Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. Although the result of their labour is anticipated to be unveiled on November 22, the film's initial advertising had both actresses in tears, which prompted social media support and amusing remarks.

They have sobbed several times during the promotion of Wicked, which has kind of turned into a running joke. The cast felt that Wicked took an eternity to complete because filming had started in December 2022 but had been put on hold by COVID-19 and the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023.

Ariana Grande explains the reason behind bawling out during Wicked movie press tours

In an interview with the E! News, Ariana and Cynthia, for the first time, explained why they were unable to control their tears to the public and the fans who endured their tearful interviews. They joked that their tear ducts were worn out and were exhausted.

"We've cried 500 times today," Grande remarked. This is a PSA, to be honest. I apologise, everyone. The Thank You, Next singer responded to certain remarks that may have annoyed some people by saying, "And you know what? I'll say it first if you're just going to talk about how bothersome it is. I'm exhausted and irritated. My tear glands are worn out.

Erivo and Grande acknowledged to one another that, even prior to the interview, they were crying together in private in a parking lot as they reminisced about the closeness they had shared during the previous few years of their friendship. "We’ve come through a massive, massive thing, and we’ve really stuck together," Erivo stated.

"The tears showed how much the two of them had been through," Cynthia said, adding that their love goes beyond appearances. Ariana concurred, stating that their relationship improved as a result of the significant moments that occurred behind the cameras.

Grande also emphasised, "You need to understand, it’s been, like, three years, people!" in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. November 22 marks the theatrical release of Wicked, which stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, and others.
