Dinesh Vijan created waves on May 8, 2025, when he revealed that Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi's next comedy escapade, Bhool Chuk Maaf, would debut straight on Amazon Prime Video instead of in theatres. A day before the movie's planned premiere, the decision—which was linked to the impending India-Pakistan conflict—was made, and it caused a significant response from theatres. Not long after, the well-known theatre chain PVRInox sued Vijan's Maddock Films, demanding a halt on the movie's digital release and Rs 60 crore in damages for breach of contract.
Pinkvilla has now exclusively learnt that the movie is once again on track for a theatrical release, despite the controversy having intensified over the weekend (read the whole story HERE). "The court has passed its order in the Maddock Films vs. PVRInox Cinemas case," a source familiar with the situation said. On May 23, 2025, Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, will now be released in theatres. On May 15, Maddock Films intends to start up its marketing campaign again.
It's interesting to note that the court's decision can possibly affect the movie's OTT window. "Bhool Chuk Maaf will make its Prime Video debut in just two weeks — on June 6, 2025 — in accordance with the court's directive, whereas the typical digital release window for Hindi films is eight weeks after the theatrical release," the source continued.
There is a chance in the digital window, though, and Pinkvilla has not independently confirmed this information. Although all sides of the dispute have committed to following the fairly balanced court judgement, sources reveal that the 2-week OTT window will be an anomaly because the court order only applies to Hindi feature films, while the 8-week stay is still in effect for all other films.
