Even though he was adored by millions of fans as well as his loved ones, the late actor Mathew Perry never really believed it, according to his family. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Keith Morrison, the Friends alum's stepfather, talked candidly about his kid.
According to Keith, who is married to Perry's mother Suzanne Morrison, Perry was somewhat impacted by the tabloid images of her looking overweight, unattractive, and alone when strolling the streets.

"I believe that he failed," Keith remarked. He went on to say, "He never would have believed that he was someone who was loved." But it wasn't until his book tour was complete and his memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, was published that Perry realised how much people adored him.
"He was still pinching himself when he returned from the book tour, [saying] 'I can't believe that people actually seem to like me,'" Keith recounted. His realisation was spot on in every way because his condor about his addiction moved others. According to Perry's stepfather, "it was brutally out there and he seemed to be at a place where he had finally beaten it."
He said that the late actor had "beaten" his imposter syndrome and was at last at peace. He let everything out through his memoir. Maybe I can succeed if I speak it aloud, write it down, and have people constantly remind me of it. "He gave it his all," Keith continued.
Through the Mathew Perry Foundation, which has offices in both Canada and the US, Perry's family—Keith, Suzanne, and their daughters Emily, Madeline, and Caitlin—has devoted their lives to assisting those who have suffered from addiction ever since his passing. The entire family sat down with the Today Show presenter to discuss all of their recollections of the late actor, including the good, the bad, and the ugly, in honour of his legacy and the first anniversary of his passing.
Keith stated that it is now their goal to "carry on" his dying request, which was to be remembered for helping others more than for being famous for Friends.
