Shah Rukh Khan paid a surprise visit to the London rehearsal space of Come Fall in Love, The DDLJ Musical, which is based on the Bollywood hit Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), prior to its UK premiere. The musical, which is a stage adaptation of the popular romantic movie from 1995, will make its Manchester Opera House debut from May 29 to June 21, 2025.
Aditya Chopra, who also directed the original, renowned Bollywood movie, is the director of Come Fall in Love, The Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge Musical, which is being produced in both the UK and India.
The longest-running movie in Indian cinematic history, DDLJ, which has been showing continuously in Mumbai since its 1995 premiere, serves as the inspiration for the musical. The cherished classic is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
"It was such an honour to meet Shah Rukh Khan and have him join us in the rehearsal room," said Jena Pandya, who plays Simran, also known as Kajol. He generously donated his time and support to the show.
It was an incredible experience that will stick with me for a long time, she added, "to be able to present some of the legendary scenes that he and Kajol initially brought to life. Next week, I can't wait to travel to Manchester and tell this tale on stage!
"It was a moment that quietly resonated with all of us, it was special in a way that didn't require words," said Ashley Day, who portrays Rog, of Shah Rukh's arrival in our rehearsal room and meeting the entire company. I could sense how important it was as I watched everyone take him in."
He went on, "He gave us such a warm welcome and showed real enthusiasm for what we've been working on. How it must feel to witness a project that millions of people adore being transformed into a musical thirty years later is beyond me. But he insisted on seeing more! Although the private talk we had was between Raj and Rog, I must admit that he was rather pleased. It was a memorable afternoon that I will never forget.
According to Vishal Dadlani, the team as a whole had a very good time when Shah Rukh Khan visited their workshop. He compared it to "Raj meeting Rog," saying it was a great experience.
