418’s opening week was a whisper, its second week a sigh. The Telugu horror film, backed by Prashant Neel and marking director Kirtan Nadagouda’s debut, started strong with a 2.65 crore net opening in India. By Sunday, it had banked 7.65 crore across the weekend. Then came Monday — and the drop.

The numbers fell below one crore. By Thursday, it was just 50 lakh. After seven days, the net total stood at 10.22 crore, grossing 12.06 crore domestically. It’s now ranked eighth among post-COVID Telugu horror films, barely holding onto the top ten.

No star power. No marquee names. Just a sealed room, a remote college, and a student who shouldn’t have been there. The film’s premise, a medical college where Room No. 418 has been locked for 15 years, promised dread.

What it delivered was a short-lived spike, then silence. Chaithra J Achar, Surya Raj Veerabathini, and Charan Lakkaraju carried the weight of a debut that didn’t quite land. Cinematographer Dinesh Divakaran and composer Venky GG added texture, but not traction. Mythri Movie Makers produced it.

Prashant Neel presented it. Yet even his name couldn’t keep the momentum going. The film’s fate is now clear: a solid start, a steep fall, and a quiet exit from the charts. The next question isn’t about what’s behind Room 418.

It’s whether any horror film can survive without a title or a face to carry it.
