Tinu Suresh Desai directs the romantic action film, which trade reports say also stars Pooja Hegde, with a first-half 2027 release planned.
Ahan Shetty isn't wasting any time between films. Bollywood Hungama and Filmfare both report that his next project, Sanki, goes on floors in Bhopal on October 30, barely months after Border 2 hit theatres.
The film is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, who made Rustom and Mission Raniganj, and written by Gyanendra Vasudev. Desai has already landed in Bhopal with his crew to lock down the last of the prep work before cameras roll. Filmfare describes Sanki as an action drama, while Bollywood Hungama calls it a romantic action entertainer. Both agree on the broad shape: a love story at the centre, wrapped in high-octane, emotionally charged action.
What the film is actually about is still a mystery. The makers haven't released a plot outline or confirmed Ahan's character, and they're apparently in no hurry to. Filmfare reports that Pooja Hegde is the leading lady, though that detail hasn't been confirmed by the production yet.
Sanki is backed by We The People, Roaring River Productions and Pals & Peers Entertainment, and is slated to reach theatres sometime in the first half of 2027. No firm date yet, which tracks given the film is only just starting to shoot.
From Border 2 to something entirely different
Border 2 put Ahan in a tough spot before a single review came in. Stepping into a franchise his father Suniel Shetty once headlined, alongside Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh, meant the comparisons were never going away. Ahan had already made peace with that. "I knew there were always going to be comparisons," he said, according to Filmfare, adding that he regretted not getting to shoot the film's final scene alongside his father.
Sanki, by his own account, is a different kind of challenge. At the mahurat event for Vikram Bhatt's 1920 Cold Winter, Ahan said he's glad to be back doing action after Border 2, but promised this one wouldn't feel anything like it.
For an actor who debuted with Tadap in 2021 and is still figuring out what kind of leading man he wants to be, a film demanding both a convincing romance and proper action chops is a decent litmus test. And with Desai's track record leaning towards grounded, real-world drama rather than pure masala, how he handles the genre mix here is worth watching.
Ahan isn't slowing down after this either. Once Sanki wraps, he moves on to Bhatt's 1920 Cold Winter, with a couple more projects reportedly lined up for 2027. The shoot starts Thursday. Everything else about Sanki, including who else is in it and what it's actually about, is still under wraps.
