The actor says Mani wished for the flight home from Abu Dhabi to crash and told him nobody needed them anymore, a week before he died.
Alappey Sudarshan has gone public with a memory he says he has sat on for years: a conversation with Kalabhavan Mani on a flight back from Abu Dhabi, exactly a week before Mani died.
Speaking to the YouTube channel Master Bin, Sudarshan said the two had just wrapped an event together in Abu Dhabi and were flying home when the subject of takeoff prayers came up, the usual reflex of asking God to get the plane down safe. Mani's answer, according to Sudarshan, went the other way entirely. He says Mani told him he was praying for the plane to go down instead, that this was all worth ending. When Sudarshan asked what he meant, he says Mani told him plainly: why are we even living, nobody needs us.
Sudarshan says that line has stayed with him. He described a friendship that ran across four films together and said the exhaustion in Mani's voice that day was not something he'd heard before. He also said the conversation left him with the impression, never confirmed outright, that there was some strain between Mani and his family around that time. He was careful to frame this as a feeling picked up from how Mani spoke, not something laid out in detail.
The more difficult part of Sudarshan's account is what came after. He said Mani had talked, not long before his death, about throwing a big celebration for his daughter's wedding, promising Sudarshan they'd make it a proper affair. When the wedding date came around, Sudarshan says he travelled to Chalakudy to personally invite him. Mani's car was parked outside the house, he said, but he wasn't allowed to see him. He says Mani's wife told him Mani wasn't home, and when he pointed out the vehicle sitting right there, she still refused to let him in.
Sudarshan says that moment has never sat right with him and that he hasn't been back to the house since. He also spoke of a thread Mani had brought him from the Mookambika temple, one he wore around his neck until recently, and said that had Mani been alive, his own circumstances today, living in a rented house, would likely look different.
None of this has been independently verified beyond Sudarshan's account, and no other party involved has responded publicly to the specifics he's described, including the claim of family friction.
