A jewellery theft at the Churchgate home of Ameesha Patel's parents has ended in an arrest, months after the family first noticed something missing. Mumbai Police have picked up 40-year-old Seema Ghate, a domestic worker from Palghar who had reportedly been employed at the residence for about a year and a half, following a complaint filed by the actress's mother, Asha Patel.

The case, as reported by IANS, dates back further than the arrest suggests. According to police, a bangle went missing from the house in January this year. Asha Patel reportedly suspected Ghate almost immediately and spent the following five or six months asking her, directly, to own up and hand the jewellery back. That didn't happen.

So Asha approached the Marine Drive police station herself. Officers initially registered a case against an unidentified woman under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. From there, a crime detection team picked up the trail and ran it all the way to Virar, where Ghate was eventually traced and detained.

She's since been produced in court and remanded to police custody until September 15. The bangle, is still unrecovered. Police say the total value of jewellery allegedly taken from the house runs to around Rs 5 lakh, though the investigation into exactly what's missing and where it went is still active.

Investigators are also checking whether Ghate has any prior criminal record, standard procedure in cases like this but one that could shape how the next few weeks play out. Nothing has been proven in court and the allegations against her remain just that, allegations, pending the outcome of the case.

Ameesha Patel herself hasn't commented publicly on the matter as yet. The actress, who debuted in 2000 with Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai and went on to headline Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Humraaz and Race 2, had her biggest commercial hit in years with Gadar 2 in 2023. She was last seen on screen in 2024's Tauba Tera Jalwa.

For now, the story sits with the Marine Drive police and a magistrate's remand order. What happens on September 15, when Ghate's custody period lapses, will decide whether this stays a quiet domestic dispute turned criminal complaint or escalates into something with more legal weight behind it. The missing bangle, so far, hasn't turned up either way.
