Ammy Virk wants everyone to stop panicking. The Punjabi singer and actor took to Instagram after reports spread that his convoy had been shot at while leaving a concert in Abbotsford, British Columbia, late on September 5.

"Please don't believe everything being reported or circulated," he wrote in his story, adding that he was completely fine and had no connection to any such incident.

His father, Kuljit Singh, went further. He told reporters that the entire family was safe and that no shots were ever fired at his son. According to him, the gunfire was aimed at a vehicle belonging to the show's organisers, not at Virk.

So something did happen that night, just not to the singer. The Abbotsford Police Department confirmed a shooting took place around 11 pm on McCallum Road, in the 2500 block, when occupants of another vehicle opened fire on a car travelling through the area. AbbyPD said preliminary information points to a dark-coloured SUV as the source of the shots.

No one was hurt, the police said. But the night got stranger. Officers responding to the shooting were soon called to a separate report, a vehicle fire a few blocks away on Sunnyside Place. They arrived to find an SUV fully ablaze.

The department's Major Crime Unit has now taken over the case and is trying to work out two things: what triggered the shooting, and whether the burning SUV is connected to it at all. Nothing on either front has been confirmed yet.

What's clear is that the story that spread online, a convoy carrying Ammy Virk coming under direct attack, does not match what police have laid out. Virk was performing in Abbotsford that night and was in the area when the shooting occurred nearby. But both he and his father insist he was never the target, and that the vehicle hit belonged to the event's organising team.

The timing didn't help calm things down. Virk has spent recent weeks in the news for very different reasons, stepping up as one of several Punjabi artists helping flood-hit families back home, alongside Diljit Dosanjh, who reportedly adopted ten villages. A viral shooting rumour involving one of Punjabi music's biggest names was always going to travel fast, whatever the actual facts turned out to be.

For now, the singer is back to addressing his fans directly rather than through secondhand reports. The Abbotsford police investigation into the shooting and the vehicle fire is still open, and there's no word yet on any arrests or an established motive. Whether the two incidents that night are linked remains the open question the Major Crime Unit is chasing.
