Here's a release strategy you don't see often. Vikram Sahidev's Anakapalli didn't open in Hyderabad, didn't open in Vijayawada, didn't open anywhere near a multiplex chain's usual radar. It opened in exactly one place: Anakapalli, the town the film is named after.
That was the plan all along, according to 123telugu. The makers wanted to gauge how the film landed with the audience it's actually about before committing to a bigger rollout. They've now seen enough. Anakapalli goes worldwide on October 2, 2026.
Vikram Sahidev is the son of producer Lagadapati Sridhar, and this rustic action drama is directed by Khagesh Tammineni, written by Trinadha Rao Nakkina. The cast includes Sandhya Vasishta, Tarak Ponnappa, Indraja, Absar, Srinivas Vadlamani and Naidu Kandregula. Kandregula Naidu and Trinadha Rao Nakkina share producer credits, and Davzand has scored the music.
What exactly convinced the team to expand isn't spelled out beyond "audience response," and there's no word yet on collections from that single-town run, no numbers to point to. So take the confidence with a pinch of salt until the wider release actually happens and the trade sites start running their weekend tallies.
Still, the logic isn't hard to follow. A film called Anakapalli, set presumably in and around that world, testing itself on home turf first makes a kind of sense that most theatrical rollouts don't bother with. Most producers would rather throw a film at every screen they can book and hope. This one waited.
Whether that patience pays off at scale is the actual question now. A single town liking a film it was practically made for tells you something, but it doesn't tell you whether Anakapalli travels. Rustic action dramas from Andhra have made that jump before, and plenty haven't.
October 2 is a Friday, which puts Anakapalli into a release calendar that's already getting crowded with Dussehra-season titles jockeying for screens. How many theatres it actually lands in outside its home base, and how it holds up against bigger-ticket competition that weekend, will say more about this experiment than the initial numbers from its hometown run ever could.
For now, the film has done the one thing every producer wants and few attempt: it's proven itself somewhere small before asking to be judged everywhere else. October 2 is when that bet gets tested for real.
