Ananya Panday is stepping into the spotlight as co-host of the 27th edition of the IIFA Awards, marking a significant evolution in her relationship with the ceremony. The event, set for January 23, 2027, at Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, will be the first time she takes on the hosting role — a leap from her earlier appearances, including her debut performance on that same stage. She joins Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan, and Maniesh Paul in front of the mic for what promises to be one of the most high-energy editions yet. The two-day IIFA Weekend and Awards will begin on January 22, with the main night concluding on the 23rd. For Johar, it’s his sixth time hosting, a milestone he acknowledges with a mix of nostalgia and excitement. “IIFA and I go back a long way,” he said, recalling the electric unpredictability of live shows. “Six times as host sounds like a lot, but the excitement, the nerves and the sheer unpredictability of a live IIFA night never get old.” His return to Abu Dhabi, where he’s hosted multiple times before, feels especially meaningful. Varun Dhawan, too, sees the city as a second home. He spoke of the unique energy that defines IIFA. Not just awards, but a global celebration of Indian cinema. “To return to Yas Island and host the IIFA Awards is a huge honour,” he said. “There is an incredible energy at IIFA that is difficult to describe until you experience it.” For Ananya Panday, the moment carries personal weight. Her journey with IIFA began in Abu Dhabi, where she performed for the first time on the iconic stage. “I had grown up watching IIFA,” she recalled. “To find myself a part of that incredible celebration of Indian cinema felt like a dream come true.” Now, returning in a new capacity, she describes the shift as both special and transformative. “To now be returning to IIFA 2027 in a completely new role as a co-host… makes this experience even more special.” Maniesh Paul, another veteran of the stage, echoed the sentiment. Having hosted the awards multiple times, he called the live audience, the stars, and the chaos of the night “nothing quite like it.” The four hosts, representing different eras and styles of entertainment. Will share the stage during a ceremony that continues to grow beyond awards into a full-fledged cultural event. Whether their chemistry translates on screen remains to be seen. But one thing’s certain: the magic of IIFA, as Johar put it, thrives on surprise. And this year, the biggest surprise might be the girl who once danced on that stage, now standing beside the legends.
