A video nobody asked for has come back to bite Ranbir Kapoor.

The clip, from an old Ganpati visit, shows the actor at a pandal, taking blessings, accepting a box of sweets from the priest. Then he turns to the photographers trailing him and says, "Main diet par hoon. Aap log kha loge," hands over the box, and walks off. Simple enough moment. Except it's 2026, this is the internet, and nothing simple stays that way.

The backlash was swift. Plenty of users called it disrespectful, pointing out that prasad, in Hindu tradition, isn't just food, it's meant to be accepted as a blessing, diet plan or not. The old clip has now become shorthand in a wider argument about fitness culture butting up against faith, and whether celebrities get to opt out of either on camera.

Into that noise walked Anjali Arora, who happened to be doing press for Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha, an upcoming mythological epic in which she plays Sita. Asked for her view at the trailer launch, she didn't dodge it.

"Main toh khud Ganpati rakh kar aayi hoon ghar pe. And I love meetha. Main toh itna meetha khati hoon," she said, making her own equation clear before getting to the actual point.

"Aur waise bhi jo Prasad humein milta hai woh aashirvaad hota hai. Usse na humara weight badta hai. Usse humein sadbhudhi hi milti hai," she added, arguing that prasad operates outside the logic of calories altogether.

She wasn't done. Anjali went on to offer something closer to practical advice than a takedown. "Toh jitna prasad aapko mile, yeh nahi hai ki bahut saara khana hai, par thoda thoda khaya karo," she said, adding that you never know in what form the divine might show up, a nod to the old belief that Narayan can appear in any guise.

At no point did she name Ranbir directly. She didn't need to. Bollywood Hungama reported the timing and context made the connection obvious anyway, given the video was doing the rounds right as she sat for this interview.

There's also a quieter subplot here. Anjali's Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha and Ranbir's own Ramayana are both drawing from the same epic, and both are eyeing the festive calendar, with Ranbir's film set for Diwali. Two Sitas, two Ramayanas, one calendar slot everyone wants. A prasad controversy landing right in the middle of that isn't the worst kind of publicity, depending on which side of the debate you're standing on.

Whether Ranbir addresses the clip himself remains to be seen. For now, the internet has picked its side, and so, gently, has Anjali Arora.
