Udta Teer hits screens October 9 with Sara Ali Khan, while Yeh Prem Mol Liya reunites Sooraj Barjatya with composer Himesh Reshammiya and pairs Ayushmann with Sharvari for the first time.
Ayushmann Khurrana isn't picking a lane, and he's got two films landing close together to prove it. First up is Udta Teer, out October 9, a patriotic comedy built around espionage and chaos, directed by Aakash Kaushik and produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment. Sara Ali Khan plays opposite him.
Right behind it comes Yeh Prem Mol Liya, a musical family drama from Sooraj Barjatya, the man behind some of Hindi cinema's most enduring family sagas. This one marks Ayushmann's first film with Sharvari, and it reunites Barjatya with composer Himesh Reshammiya, whose songs have long been part of that particular brand of Rajshri warmth.
The two projects couldn't be more different on paper. One's a genre-bending comedy wrapped in patriotism and punchlines. The other leans into music, family ties and the kind of emotional register Barjatya has built a career on. Ayushmann seems to be leaning into that contrast on purpose.
"From my very first film, I have wanted to surprise audiences and, more importantly, surprise myself as an actor," he said. "I've never believed in being confined to one image or genre, whether it is a social comedy, an unconventional love story, an intense drama, or a musical family saga, every film gives me an opportunity to explore a new emotion and reveal a different side of myself."
He went further, framing the two releases as evidence of a deliberate strategy rather than coincidence. "Udta Teer and Yeh Prem Mol Liya are completely different experiences, and that contrast is exactly what drew me to them," he said. "One allows me to explore the madness and humour of a genre-bending, never-seen-before patriotic comedy, while the other takes me into the warmth, emotion and music of a family drama."
It's a familiar move for an actor whose career has been built on avoiding repetition. Since his debut, Ayushmann has bounced between social comedies, romances, straight dramas and the odd action beat, rarely settling into one screen persona long enough for audiences to get used to it. Udta Teer and Yeh Prem Mol Liya just push that pattern to its extremes, comedy on one end, a Barjatya musical on the other.
Udta Teer arrives first, on October 9, trailer already out and doing the rounds. Yeh Prem Mol Liya doesn't have a confirmed release date yet, but with Barjatya, Reshammiya and a fresh pairing with Sharvari in the mix, expect that one to get its own moment closer to the film's actual arrival.
