Barbara Eden was supposed to walk into the Cinecon Classic Film Festival on Saturday night and pick up a Legacy Award. She never showed.

The 95-year-old star of I Dream of Jeannie pulled out at the last minute because of what festival organizers called a "sudden illness," according to a statement the Cinecon 62 team posted on Facebook and reported by Page Six.

"We're sorry to share that, due to a sudden illness, Barbara Eden will no longer be able to appear in person at Cinecon tonight," the organizers wrote. They added that Eden was "deeply regretful that she had to cancel at the last minute, as she had been very much looking forward to seeing everyone and celebrating with us."

No word yet on what the illness actually is. Page Six said it reached out to Eden's representatives for comment and hadn't heard back at the time of publishing.

The award itself still got handed out. Pat Boone, 92, stepped in to accept the Legacy Award on Eden's behalf. The two go back decades. They co-starred together in All Hands on Deck and The Yellow Canary, films that predate most of the festival's audience by half a century or more.

Cinecon organizers were careful to note the disappointment cut both ways. "We know how many of you were excited to welcome Barbara," the statement read, before asking attendees to "join you in sending her our best wishes for a speedy recovery."

Eden has spent close to seventy years in front of cameras, and I Dream of Jeannie remains the role that follows her name into every headline, even now. The show ran from 1965 to 1970 and never really left syndication. That's the kind of career that gets you a Legacy Award at a classic film festival in the first place. It's also the kind of career where an audience shows up specifically because they've been watching you since childhood, and finds out at the door that you're not coming.

For now there's no update on Eden's condition beyond the organizers' statement, and no timeline for when or if she'll make another public appearance. Cinecon 62 continues through the weekend. Whether Eden issues her own statement, through her team or otherwise, is the thing to watch next.
