A Bengaluru court has stepped in to shield Nani's upcoming film The Paradise from what its producers call defamatory content, days before the film hits screens on September 24.
The production house approached the court seeking a restraint on negative commentary and "defamatory" posts about the film. The court agreed, but only in a limited way. The interim order applies specifically to the URLs and content flagged in the producer's petition, not to reviews in general. Genuine criticism and honest opinion about The Paradise remain untouched, according to Filmibeat Tamil.
The order isn't tied to the release date either. It holds only until the next hearing, listed for October 28, 2026. The court has also directed the producers to serve copies of the petition, supporting documents and the order itself on the respondents named in the case.
The timing isn't a coincidence. This comes barely weeks after Yash's Toxic ran into a similar storm. Monster Mind Creations and KVN, the companies behind that film, sent legal notices to a set of critics and social media users after the film's business collapsed following largely negative reviews. Toxic had claimed a day-one number of Rs 150 crore, but the producers couldn't put out a day-two figure, and the film's team blamed one-line reviews, including one that called it "torture," for the drop. Netizens have been having a field day with the whole episode, joking that producers are now running to court whenever a film fails to pull audiences in.
The Paradise, directed by Srikanth Odela, has carried its own baggage since the first glimpse dropped. Nani showed up with a new look and the clip leaned heavily on rough language, and the reaction online was largely negative from that point. The teaser that followed didn't help either, with several viewers calling it excessively violent. The makers have since skipped releasing a trailer altogether and are sending the film straight to theatres. Nani has also reportedly decided against pushing the film with the usual pan-India marketing push this time.
Whether the court order actually changes how the film is received once it's out is a different question. Interim protection against specific flagged posts is not the same as immunity from criticism, and the order itself says as much. What it does confirm is that Toxic's fallout has spooked at least one other big Telugu release into taking pre-emptive legal steps before a single ticket is sold.
The Paradise opens worldwide on September 24. The next court date, October 28, will decide whether this protection sticks around at all.
