Bethlehem Kudumba Unit has done something a rom-com almost never does in Malayalam cinema. It has become the biggest grosser in the industry's history, worldwide.

On its fourth Sunday, day 24 of release, the Girish AD film added a fresh haul that pushed its cumulative worldwide gross past Lokah Chapter 1 – Chandra's lifetime total. Koimoi puts the film's global number at 306.75 crore, with 172.52 crore from India and 134 crore overseas. DNA India runs it slightly lower, at 304.95 crore, citing an India gross of 170.95 crore against the same 134 crore overseas figure. The gap comes down to how each outlet is counting the day's own numbers, roughly 6.93 crore versus 6.10 crore for Sunday alone. Either way, the film has cleared 300 crore and left Lokah behind.

Lokah Chapter 1 – Chandra, Kalyani Priyadarshan's fantasy film that had itself set the record almost exactly a year ago on September 20, 2025, closed its run somewhere between 301.40 crore and 305.17 crore worldwide depending on who's counting. Bethlehem Kudumba Unit needed the same 24 days to get past it. That symmetry isn't lost on anyone tracking Mollywood box office.

What makes the run notable is the genre. Big Malayalam openers tend to be action or fantasy tentpoles built for spectacle. This is a family entertainer that opened around Onam and has simply refused to drop off, four weekends in. Word of mouth did the heavy lifting here rather than a marketing blitz, and the fourth-weekend jump, 16.67 crore according to Koimoi, tells you audiences are still discovering it rather than exhausting it.

For Nivin Pauly, this is the biggest hit of his career by a distance. He's spent the last few years in and out of the top tier, and Bethlehem Kudumba Unit puts him firmly back at the centre of it. Mamitha Baiju's year has been even louder. She's now had three hits back to back across two industries, Jana Nayagan opposite Vijay, Vishwanath and Sons with Suriya, and now this. Three languages, three verified successes, one calendar year. That's not a small thing for an actor barely a few years into leading roles.

The film was made on a reported budget of 30 crore, which means the multiples here are absurd whichever number you trust. Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran produced it under their own banners, and the cast beyond the two leads, Sangeeth Prathap, Shyam Mohan, Suresh Krishna, Vinay Forrt, has stayed remarkably consistent in reviews and reactions online.

The record itself may not stand long. Lokah's own franchise isn't done, Dominic Arun and Dulquer Salmaan are already building Lokah Chapter 2 with Tovino Thomas in the lead, and that's a film with the built-in audience to challenge whatever number Bethlehem Kudumba Unit finally settles on once its theatrical run ends.
