Bhopal Teachers Unite in Rare Street Protests, Disrupting City Traffic

Bhopal’s streets turned into protest zones on Monday as teachers, aspirants, and guest faculty members flooded five key locations in a rare, coordinated show of dissent. The agitation, spanning from Roshanpura Square to the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) office, brought traffic to a standstill and marked one of the most widespread teacher-led demonstrations in recent memory.

Unlike past protests by doctors or lawyers, this was not a single group but a confluence of demands — some over recruitment, others over eligibility tests, and a few over job security, that converged in a single day of unrest. At Neelam Park, where three separate groups had been camping for weeks, tensions flared when Class-1 aspirants attempted a march toward the CM House.

Police erected barricades. Protesters responded by lying down on roads, blocking intersections. Similar scenes unfolded at Board Office Square, where Class-3 candidates took over lanes during peak hours. The DPI office saw its 46th day of sit-in, with Narendra Rajput’s hunger strike entering its 26th day.
