Ahead of the show's October 1 return on Prime Video, Arora tells Bollywood Hungama that his character Amavas gets wilder without losing his core nature.
Bhuvan Arora is not short of work right now, and he sounds like he's enjoying it. His railway-ticketing comedy Waiting Hai just landed on Amazon MX Player and Prime Video, and in a week he's back on the platform as Amavas in Dupahiya Season 2, out October 1.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama in an exclusive interview, Arora said the trailer for the new season isn't lying about the chaos. "This time we have gone a little more bonkers. Humara pagalpan thoda badh gaya hai. The masti quotient is high and so are the stakes," he said. New faces join the Dhadakpur universe too, including Bhojpuri star and politician Dinesh Lal Yadav, known widely as Nirahua. "We have Nirahua ji also," Arora said. "The madness has increased, so I hope the fun also increases for people."
Amavas, though, isn't getting a personality transplant. "A person can't leave behind his basic nature," Arora said, describing his character as a permanently heartbroken romantic — a dilhara aashiq, who stays that way through Season 2. What changes, he said, is how that nature plays out against whatever new mess Dhadakpur finds itself in this time. "There is a flip in the personality of the character. If I reveal more, it will spoil the fun," he added, keeping the actual plot firmly under wraps.
Dupahiya is directed by Sonam Nair and carries forward its returning cast of Sparsh Shrivastava, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane and Yashpal Sharma, a village-comedy ensemble that built a loyal following in Season 1.
Waiting Hai's response caught him off guard
Before Dupahiya takes over, there's Waiting Hai, which also stars Divyenndu, Kumud Mishra and Harshita Gaur. Arora called the reaction to it "overwhelming." "We hadn't anticipated that people will like it till this extent and the relatability factor it will have with the railway ticketing and all of that," he said, pointing to the show landing at a moment when ticketing frustrations are genuinely on people's minds. He added that the loudest approval came from home. "More than the people, my family has loved it. They hadn't seen me in this avatar before," he said.
Arora framed the current run as the payoff after leaner stretches. "It is very important for any actor to keep busy," he said. "I have seen periods where I had to sit idle to reach a point where you are not free anymore."
There's more lined up. Next year, Arora joins the second season of Farzi opposite Shahid Kapoor, one of the more anticipated returns on the streaming calendar. For now, though, the clock is running down to October 1, when Dhadakpur reopens for business and Amavas's dilhara heart gets put through whatever new wringer Season 2 has planned.
