Zach Hickerson walked out of a Greenville, South Carolina jail on Sunday and immediately made one thing clear: he's had enough of the internet filling in the blanks about his family.
Hickerson, whose brother Brian dated Hayden Panettiere, was arrested Friday night after a fight broke out at Wild Wing Cafe in Greenville. According to an eyewitness who spoke to TMZ, Brian and Zach were being heckled over Panettiere's death before things turned physical. Video from the scene showed Brian throwing a bar stool during the scuffle. He was detained but released without charges. Zach wasn't so lucky. He got booked for disorderly conduct.
When TMZ caught up with him after his release, Zach wouldn't go into what actually happened inside the bar. He had plenty to say about everything since, though.
"It's just super frustrating all that we've been through and all the rumors that get started and then people believe them and then they attack as a result of the rumors," he said. "That's what pisses me off."
He went further, telling the outlet that people online "fill in their own holes" when there's a gap in the story and then come after him and Brian based on nothing but assumption. Asked to spell out exactly what people are getting wrong, he stayed vague. "I'll clarify eventually," was as far as he'd go, saying he first needed to track down his car and get back to his life. He also didn't say a word about how Brian is coping.
The backdrop here is Panettiere's death on August 16, which sources describe differently depending on where you look. TMZ refers to Brian as her boyfriend, while Extra TV calls him her ex, a distinction that matters and hasn't been cleanly settled in either report. Brian Hickerson's relationship with Panettiere has drawn scrutiny for years before this, and that history appears to be exactly what Zach believes is turning bar patrons and strangers online into instant judges.
For now, nobody involved has laid out publicly what actually caused the fight to start, only that it did, and that a stool ended up airborne before police stepped in. Zach's promise to eventually clarify things leaves the actual story open. Whether that clarification comes soon, or whether Brian Hickerson says anything at all, is the next thing to watch here.
