Carrot Top's Saturday night set at the Luxor Hotel & Casino has been scrapped, and Monday's show is now a question mark too.
TMZ reported the cancellation on September 19, a day after the comedian, born Scott Thompson, was reportedly taken to a Las Vegas hospital following a suicide attempt on Friday night. He's 61. He remains hospitalized and continuing to receive care, according to the outlet.
The Luxor hasn't said much beyond a short statement it gave to local station KLAS after news of the hospitalization broke. "Scott is a beloved member of the Luxor and MGM Resorts family, and we are relieved to hear that he is recovering," the hotel said. "We are thinking of him and wish him strength as he receives the care and support he needs."
That's it. No timeline, no word on when or if he'll be back on stage.
Thompson has held down a residency at the Luxor since 2005, more than two decades of near-nightly sets that turned him into one of the Strip's fixtures alongside the magicians and the Cirque shows. A canceled Saturday night barely registers against that run. But a comedian this identified with one venue going dark, even for a night, tends to worry a fan base that's watched him build the act there for twenty-one years.
Monday, September 21 is the next date on his calendar. As of Saturday evening, nobody, not TMZ, not the Luxor, not Thompson's team, has said whether it's happening. Nobody's said it isn't, either.
Thompson's representatives haven't put out a statement of their own yet, at least not one that's surfaced publicly. The reporting so far leans on TMZ and the hotel's brief comment to KLAS, so a lot of the picture, what happened Friday night, how serious it was, when he might perform again, is still filled in with reported details rather than confirmed ones.
For now the Luxor marquee stays dark on his usual nights, and the only real update anyone has is a hotel spokesperson saying they're relieved he's recovering. Whether Monday's show survives is the next thing to watch, and whether Thompson or his team address any of this directly is the one that matters more.
