The Terminal List Season 2: Diego Luna Joins Chris Pratt Cast

Season 2 of the Prime Video thriller pulls in cast from the Dark Wolf prequel and adds Diego Luna, Olga Kurylenko and Arnold Vosloo as James Reece chases a presidential pardon.

Four years is a long wait for a second season, but Prime Video's The Terminal List is finally back, and it's brought reinforcements. Chris Pratt returns as former Navy SEAL James Reece on October 21, this time adapting Jack Carr's novel True Believer, and the cast list alone tells you Amazon isn't treating this as a quiet comeback.

The biggest addition is Diego Luna, stepping in as CIA operative Freddy Strain. According to Collider, Strain is the one who pulls Reece back into active duty, dangling a presidential pardon for whatever happened at the end of Season 1. That's not a small plot detail. Reece's actions closed out Season 1 on a note viewers were left to interpret themselves: the assumption is that he killed his SEAL brother Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch) after learning Edwards had a hand in the deaths of Reece's wife and daughter. Season 2 apparently opens with Reece still carrying that.

The Dark Wolf connection gets bigger

Three actors are crossing over from The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, the prequel series set seven years before the flagship show. Tom Hopper is back as Raife Hastings, Reece and Edwards' SEAL brother. Dar Salim returns as Iraqi special forces operator Mohammed "Mo" Farooq, and Luke Hemsworth as the distinctly untrustworthy CIA man Jules Landry. Collider notes all three will intersect with Reece again in Season 2, which is presumably the point of building out that prequel in the first place — assuming Dark Wolf itself gets renewed, given how that show ended on a cliffhanger cameo.

Beyond the returning faces, the new names read like a show trying to match the scale of the source material. Martin Sensmeier joins as Sergeant Major Otatkay and Costa Ronin as former Russian operator Vasili Adrenov. Olga Kurylenko, Yul Vazquez and Arnold Vosloo are also attached, though their roles haven't been revealed yet. True Believer is said to be one of Amazon's bigger television bets, so a stacked cast tracks.

Book fidelity, with the usual caveats

Season 1 took its own liberties with Carr's original novel, so nobody should expect a page-for-page translation here either. Collider's read is that the show will stay broadly faithful to True Believer's plot while still surprising people who've read the book, which is really the only way a straight adaptation works once the source material is already out there for anyone to buy.

What we don't have yet is a full breakdown of how Kurylenko, Vazquez and Vosloo fit into Reece's new mission, which the reporting describes as centred on a terrorist cell and, more personally, on redemption. That's presumably what the next month of marketing will fill in. Prime Video has set October 21 as the date. Whether the show can hold onto the tension that made Season 1 work, while juggling this much bigger cast, is the thing worth watching for.
