Comrade Kalyan’s theatrical run begins tomorrow, but not before a quiet skirmish with the censor board. The film — Sree Vishnu’s latest, directed by Janakiram Marella and co-starring Mahima Nambiar, lost 1 minute 32 seconds of footage during certification, according to sources. That’s roughly 92 seconds shaved off a 2-hour 36-minute original cut, now trimmed to 2 hours 25 minutes.

The cuts weren’t about violence or sex. They were about brand names: Pan Parag and Gutka were muted. A few dialogues and visuals deemed sensitive also made the chopping block. The team had already used the word ‘Naxalite’ freely in promos.

So the irony wasn’t lost on fans. Presenter Kona Venkat called it out publicly, questioning why the term was silenced post-certification when it had already been broadcast widely. The film’s tone is described as a comedy drama, with Radhika Sarathkumar, Shine Tom Chacko, Upendra Limaye, Satya, Brahmaji, and Vennela Kishore in key roles.
