The actress used the New York carpet to talk about her Verity co-star, her VMA cameo with Taylor Swift, and a third stint hosting Saturday Night Live.
Dakota Johnson showed up to the New York premiere of "Verity" in a white, midriff-baring custom Calvin Klein number, and it got her a compliment from her co-star that's already doing the rounds online.
Speaking to Extra's Mona Kosar Abdi on the carpet, Johnson revealed what Anne Hathaway had to say about the look. "Annie just told me that I look like a sexy icicle," she said. The two actresses, per Johnson, share a comic wavelength on set. "I think we bring out the, like, kind of playful and naughty side of each other," she said, calling Hathaway funny, smart and kind, and adding that making the film together was, in her words, the best time.
"Verity" is a twisty thriller built to keep audiences guessing about who's actually telling the truth. Johnson plays Lowen, and she isn't hedging on where she lands. "Lowen is the villain," she told Extra. "She's a psychopath."
The Taylor Swift connection
Johnson's premiere run comes just days after she showed up alongside Taylor Swift at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, where the two debuted the music video for "Patient Zero." The video also features Colin Farrell.
Asked about working with Swift, Johnson didn't hold back. "It was so special," she said. "We're so close and to be able to work with your friend and have it actually go well and then also, like, feed each other's creative minds." She went further, describing Swift as a genuine filmmaker behind the camera. "She's such a good director and she's a true visionary," Johnson said, adding that the collaboration felt, in her phrase, symbiotic.
It's a rare on-record moment of Johnson talking through what it's actually like to be directed by Swift, who's increasingly stepping behind the camera on her own visual projects rather than just fronting them.
Johnson isn't done with big stages this year. She's set to host "Saturday Night Live" for a third time, a gig she says still rattles her nerves despite the familiarity. "I'm so excited. It's truly my favorite place in the world," she said, adding that she'd come straight from 30 Rock to the premiere. "I was literally like wheeled down the hallway on like a little wheelie cart because I couldn't walk that far in heels in my dress."
She was careful not to oversell how easy hosting is. "I would never say it's easy because it's always nerve-wracking," Johnson said, "but it's so much fun."
With "Verity" now rolling out theatrically and the SNL date approaching, Johnson's press run isn't slowing down anytime soon. No date for her SNL episode has been confirmed yet.
