The actor and content creator, who played a police constable in Alia Bhatt's Darlings, died on October 19 and was cremated the next day in Mumbai.
Divya Vinekar, the actor and content creator who played a police constable in Alia Bhatt's Darlings, has died. News of her death came from her friend, RJ Rohini Ramnathan, who shared the news on Instagram on October 19.
"It is with utmost sadness and shock that I have to inform all those who love/adore our DV, @divyavinekar left for heavenly abode today," Ramnathan wrote. "It was sudden and unexpected. The family and the ones whose lives she touched daily with her grace and love are dealing. Enquiries at this moment could be avoided."
Ramnathan, who worked alongside Vinekar at Fever FM, called her "a pillar to me personally and professionally for all of us." She added, "Her work ethic, her kindness and her knowledge made her one of her kind. You'll be missed baby, go well. Thank you for being a part of us. We were blessed to have her."
No cause of death has been shared publicly. Rediff reported that Vinekar's last rites were carried out on October 20 in Mumbai.
Vinekar's film credits were small but memorable. In Darlings, the 2022 Netflix release that starred Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah, she played a constable, a role that put her alongside two of the biggest names in the industry for her first feature film. She also appeared in Jalsa, the thriller led by Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah that released the same year.
In an August 2022 Instagram post resurfaced by Rediff, Vinekar had written about how the Darlings role found her at a difficult point in her career. "From being fairly unemployed during peak Covid, finishing other content-writing projects, giving countless self-tests patiently, to somewhat questioning my career decision, BAM! I was given #Darlings one day," she wrote, adding that she thought she had lost the audition before the part landed in her lap. "To work with legends in my first project, the first feature film itself is surreal," she said then. "This project will be close to my heart till my last breath."
Outside of acting, Vinekar built a following as a content creator and was a familiar voice in the radio industry through her association with Fever FM, where Ramnathan says she worked for years.
Further details about the circumstances of her death have not been made public. CutMirchi will update this report as more information becomes available.
