Netflix’s latest dog-centric holiday romp, A Dog’s Perfect Christmas, has landed with a full trailer and a release date: November 4, 2026. The film, narrated by a basset hound named Winstead (voiced by Thomas Haden Church), follows a family in crisis when Mrs. Goss falls into an induced coma, leaving her teenage daughter, grandfather, and their loyal hound to keep the household together during the holidays. Dennis Quaid stars as the grandfather, stepping into a role that leans heavily on sentimentality and seasonal warmth — typical of the franchise’s formula, but with a new twist: a Corgi pup enters the picture to help heal the fractured family unit. Milo Ventimiglia, Brooke Lena Johnson, Kathleen Rose Perkins, Jennifer Tilly, and Mary Steenburgen round out the cast. The movie is directed by Cathryn Michon, who previously helmed Cook Off! and Muffin Top: A Love Story, and co-wrote the screenplay with W. Bruce Cameron, the author behind the original A Dog’s Purpose novels. It’s based on Cameron’s novel of the same name. Production credits go to Dan Angel, Jane Charles, and Michael G. Nathanson. The film will stream globally on Netflix starting November 4. No word yet on whether it’ll be available in Indian theatres, but given the track record of similar titles, a theatrical rollout seems unlikely. The trailer leans hard into the saccharine, the dog’s voiceover, the snow-dusted windows, the forced smiles. But there’s a quiet charm in its earnestness. Whether it’ll resonate beyond the usual holiday comfort crowd remains to be seen. What’s certain? The dog’s still got a job to do. And so does the calendar. November 4 is coming.
