Doraemon: Castle of the Undersea Devil has crossed ₹9 crore at the Indian box office in four days, with a strong hold on its first Monday. The film collected ₹1.25 crore on Monday, marking a 55% drop from its opening day — a performance that trade sources are calling solid for an anime release in India. It’s now the highest-grossing entry in the Doraemon franchise, surpassing the previous best of ₹5 crore.

The film follows Nobita and friends as they dive into the Bermuda Triangle using Doraemon’s gadgets, only to stumble upon the Mu Federation and an ancient AI war machine named Poseidon, capable of destroying Earth. To stop it, they team up with El, a Mu rebel, in a race against time.

Positive word-of-mouth is expected to keep momentum going, though the film’s long-term fate hinges on how well it sustains interest beyond the initial wave. With no major competition in sight, the anime could still climb further.

This isn’t just another kids’ movie. The franchise has quietly built a loyal fanbase in India over years, but this one might be the first to truly break through commercially.

Next update: Friday morning.
