Kerry Washington is stepping back into the role of Eleanor — but this time, she’s not just surviving the past. She’s digging into it. Apple TV has renewed Imperfect Women for Season 2, pivoting from a limited series to a character-driven saga centered on Washington’s lead. The move confirms what fans had been hoping for since the finale: Eleanor isn’t done with secrets. Not even close.

Season 1 was built around three women unraveling a murder in Los Angeles. Now, the story shifts to Martha’s Vineyard, a place that looks like peace, feels like pressure, and hides more than one lie. Washington’s Eleanor returns home, only to find her idyllic roots are rotten at the core. The logline doesn’t promise answers. It promises reckoning.

The show’s original creator, Annie Weisman, stays on as co-showrunner, now joined by Justin Hillian. Best known for his work on The Chi and Snowfall. They’re crafting an original story for Season 2, unmoored from Araminta Hall’s novel, which only covered the first season. No new book. Just a fresh narrative built around Washington’s performance, her chemistry with Leslie Odom Jr. (her brother) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (her mother), who are expected to return.

Elisabeth Moss’ Mary won’t be back on screen, though she remains an executive producer. So does Kate Mara’s Nancy’s widower, Robert, though the final scene, where Mary and Robert shared a quiet moment at their daughter’s birthday party, might get addressed. Fans have already started theorizing: was that closure? Or a setup?

Apple TV’s Matt Cherniss called it a natural next chapter. “Annie and Justin’s thrilling new story felt like an exciting and natural next chapter.” That’s all the confirmation anyone needs. The question now isn’t whether the show will continue. It’s how deep the cracks go.

No release date yet. But if Season 1’s momentum is any guide, expect the second season to drop sometime in late 2027. And when it does, the real mystery won’t be who killed Nancy. It’ll be what Eleanor thought she knew about herself.
