Emily Atack got married twice in three weeks. And the second one, in the whitewashed Spanish town of Mojacar, came with an apology attached.

The Rivals star and her husband, Dr Alistair Garner, exchanged vows again in the courtyard of a 16th-century church, this time in front of 197 guests. It followed a smaller ceremony at a local church in Bedfordshire earlier in the month. Before the couple climbed into a parked red Cadillac for photographs, with their two-year-old son Barney perched at the wheel, Atack turned to the townsfolk who'd gathered to watch and said, according to Bollywood Shaadis, "This is all a bit over the top, isn't it?"

It wasn't just modesty talking. Mojacar means something to Atack. Her father, Keith, owned property in the town for decades until 2018, and she spent summers there growing up. For the wedding, the couple had rented out two neighbouring restaurants, and security kept locals from walking through that stretch of town during the event. That's reportedly what left residents frustrated enough to warrant the apology in the first place.

The comparisons to Dua Lipa's May 2026 wedding to Callum Turner in Sicily wrote themselves. That Palermo ceremony drew graffiti reading "Palermo is not for sale, our piazza is not your living room" after locals were shut out of their own streets. Atack's version was smaller in scale, but the friction was familiar.

Once the vows were done, the guests walked through rose petals, toasted with champagne and sat down to a three-course meal, cod risotto or mandarin sorbet to start, shredded suckling pig with pumpkin compote to follow, mango mousse with nougat ice cream for dessert. Every table on the seating chart was named after the word 'love' in a different language, from Swahili to Korean to Arabic.

David Tennant led the ceremony. Atack's Rivals castmates Alex Hassell, Bella Maclean, Rufus Jones and Victoria Smurfit were there, along with the show's writer Dominic Collins and producer Felicity Tucci, whose husband Stanley Tucci also attended. Absent were Aidan Turner and Danny Dyer, her former Inbetweeners castmates.

The wedding lands right as questions swirl around Atack's television future. The Inbetweeners franchise is reportedly getting a 10th anniversary special called Fwends Reunited, and Atack was said to have been dropped from it. Whether she reprises her breakout role as Emily Hinchcliffe remains unconfirmed. For now, the only thing settled is the marriage.
