Evil Dead Burn has stormed HBO Max, claiming the top spot in the U.S. Just two days after its October 2 release — and it’s not stopping there. The sixth installment in Sam Raimi’s horror franchise, directed by Sébastien Vaniček and produced by Raimi himself, is already outperforming Supergirl and Backrooms on the platform, climbing to #1 while maintaining a strong presence at #4. Its reach extends far beyond the American market: the film is trending on Prime Video across Germany, Mexico, and Poland, and has gained traction on Apple TV, Google Play, Crave, Rakuten TV, Catchplay, and friDay. This global momentum points to how streaming distribution now fuels cross-border success for genre films. The movie’s title, Evil Dead Burn, picks up directly from the ending of Evil Dead Rise, where Jessica (Greta van den Brink) was exposed to demonic evil within an apartment building. Rather than rehashing the Book of the Dead formula, this sequel uses her transformation as a catalyst for a new family’s descent into terror. It brings back Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland), reintroduces key artifacts like the Kandarian Dagger, and revives Professor Knowby’s (John Peakes) research, all signs that previously isolated storylines are beginning to converge. The film’s financial performance is equally striking: it grossed $72.4 million worldwide against a reported $20 million production budget, continuing the franchise’s pattern of turning modest investments into durable hits. That track record includes Evil Dead Rise, which earned roughly $147.3 million on a $15 million budget. Warner Bros. And New Line are already moving forward with the next chapter, Evil Dead Wrath, written and directed by Francis Galluppi (The Last Stop in Yuma County). Production has wrapped, and the film is set for release on April 7, 2028. Raimi and longtime producer Rob Tapert are executive producers, with Bruce Campbell (Ash vs. Evil Dead) and Rise director Lee Cronin serving as executive producers. The franchise is no longer just surviving. It’s expanding. And the door? It’s still open.
