Mike Flanagan wants to remake Jaws and reboot Jurassic Park. That’s the headline from a Reddit AMA where the horror maestro, fresh off his Carrie miniseries on Prime, casually dropped two franchise dreams. Not Stephen King this time — Steven Spielberg. The man who made terror feel like a tide he could control. Now Flanagan says he’d love to helm a new Jaws, and even better, a true dinosaur horror film. 'A true dinosaur horror film would be a blast,' he wrote. No confirmation yet. But the idea landed like a shark in a pool of whispers.

The Jaws sequel hasn’t been touched since 1987’s Revenge, widely panned and reportedly disliked by Spielberg himself. There’s even talk, unverified. That he’s asked for no more sequels. Still, Flanagan sees a path: not just action, but dread. He knows how to make a small town feel like a cage. Midnight Mass was that, coastal, claustrophobic, built on grief and belief. Amity Island? Same blueprint. A killer shark isn’t just a beast. It’s a symptom. And Flanagan’s horror always starts with people.

Then there’s Jurassic Park. Universal still loves it. But after Fallen Kingdom and the mixed results of later entries, the magic’s faded. Flanagan’s take? He doesn’t want another chase. He wants awe. Terror. The kind that comes when you realize you’re not in control. The T-rex roar in the original wasn’t just sound. It was a warning. Flanagan understands that. He’s already working on The Mist and The Dark Tower reboots. If he can turn King into something intimate and haunting, why not bring that same weight to dinosaurs?

Scarlett Johansson is back in the mix for a new Jurassic Park movie, possibly with J.A. Bayona returning. But Flanagan has already worked with her, on The Exorcist: Martyrs. That connection might not mean anything. Or it might mean everything.

For now, it’s just a wish. A dream shared in a corner of Reddit. But if anyone can make a Jaws that feels like the original. And a Jurassic Park that remembers what fear tastes like, it’s Flanagan. The question isn’t whether he should. It’s whether Spielberg will let him try.
