Godzilla Minus Zero hits screens on November 6, and the box-office math is already brutal. The film needs to cross $525 million worldwide to crack 2026’s top 10 global grossers — a number that feels less like a target and more like a dare. That’s the threshold set by Curry Barker’s micro-budget thriller Obsession, which somehow pulled off the impossible and landed at #10.
Now, Takashi Yamazaki’s sequel must do the same, even though it’s not just up against a record, it’s up against a narrative that defies logic. The original Godzilla Minus Zero made $113.9 million globally in 2023 despite being a foreign-language film. This one’s bigger, louder, and set in postwar Japan, where Godzilla regenerates to face King Ghidorah.
But scale doesn’t guarantee success. Not this time. Trade sources quoted by Koimoi project a North American opening weekend between $25 million and $35 million. That’s solid for a non-English film, but nowhere near enough to vault into the top tier.
