Gondhal is back — and this time, it’s aiming for the world stage. The Marathi thriller, already India’s official entry for the 2027 Oscars, has landed Hombale Films as its overseas distributor, a move that signals serious intent behind its global rollout. The announcement came Thursday, with Hombale, known for KGF, Kantara, and Salaar. Framing the film as a story of Maharashtra’s pride, rooted in culture and tradition, yet charged with emotional gravity. No release date has been set, but the poster hints at a near-future theatrical return, possibly tied to Oscar campaign momentum. Paid previews are also in the works, likely targeting early 2027. Directed by Santosh Davakhar, who also produces alongside Diksha Davakhar, the film stars Kishor Kadam, Ishita Deshmukh, Yogesh Sohoni, and Nishad Bhoir. Ilaiyaraaja handles the score, Amalendu Chaudhary shoots it, Ashish Mhatre edits, and Sandeep Meher designs the production. Set in rural Maharashtra, it explores ambition, ritual, and vulnerability, themes that may resonate beyond regional borders. Whether the film can cross over from cult acclaim to international recognition remains to be seen. But one thing’s certain: it’s no longer just a local story. It’s a contender.
