Hanuman Ansh Turns Rs 8 Lakh Opener Into Rs 300 Crore Hit

Eight weeks in, and Hanuman Ansh still won't quit.

The film added Rs 2 crore on its eighth Monday, according to figures reported by Pinkvilla, a 33 per cent drop from the Friday before it. Standard Monday behaviour for anything running this long. Except this is Hanuman Ansh, and the number that matters more is the one behind it. Four days into its eighth week, the film's cume for that stretch alone sits at Rs 20 crore. Pinkvilla's trade estimate has the week closing out somewhere between Rs 24 and 25 crore, which would be a new high for a single week of this run, not a low.

That takes the total to Rs 294.25 crore. Do the arithmetic and the Rs 300 crore mark falls sometime before the week is out.

What makes that figure worth pausing on isn't the ceiling. It's the floor. Hanuman Ansh opened to Rs 8 lakh. Not crore, lakh. A number that small on day one usually means a film quietly disappears by the second Friday. Instead it's turned into what Pinkvilla is calling one of the highest return-on-investment blockbusters the Hindi box office has seen, built entirely on word of mouth rather than a marketing push or a starry opening weekend.

The devotional drama, centred on Neem Karoli Baba, has climbed almost purely on holds. Small drops week after week, the kind distributors dream about and rarely get. And now the trade conversation has shifted from whether the film clears Rs 300 crore to how far past it the number can go.

Pinkvilla's own tracking suggests the film has the legs to touch Rs 350 crore nett in its complete run if current trends hold. But that comes with a caveat. Drishyam: The Conclusion is landing this week, and Ajay Devgn's thriller is already selling fast in advance, reportedly moving 76,000 tickets in national chains for its opening day alone. A film that size in the same window is bound to eat into shows and screens that Hanuman Ansh has held onto for two months.

Factor that competition in, and Pinkvilla's safer estimate lands closer to Rs 325 crore nett for the full run, still a number nobody in the trade would have bet on back when this film opened to eight lakh rupees and a handful of shows.

Whether Hanuman Ansh actually crosses Rs 300 crore by Sunday, and how much of a dent Drishyam's release puts in its remaining weeks, should both be clear within the next seven days.
