Prime Video has locked in January 20, 2027, as the global launch date for Bloodaxe, the new historical drama series from Michael Hirst and his brother Horatio Hirst. The announcement came during a packed panel at New York Comic-Con on Friday, where the streaming platform also dropped the first-look teaser for the eight-episode debut season.

The series will premiere all episodes simultaneously across more than 240 countries and territories, marking a major international rollout. According to Deadline, Season 2 is already underway in Ireland, produced by MGM Television — a sign of early confidence in the show’s potential. The story centers on Erik Bloodaxe (Xavier Molyneux), one of history’s most feared Norse raiders, and his wife Gunnhild, Mother of Kings (Jessica Madsen), as they fight to claim the throne of Norway amid war, betrayal, and shifting alliances.

The synopsis describes a kingdom torn apart by rival Scandinavian rulers and even a powerful English monarch, setting the stage for what the press release calls a ‘thundering, cataclysmic, compelling, and utterly magical’ saga.
