Insidious: Out of the Further has quietly done something none of its marketing has bothered to shout about. Twenty-one days into its run, the fifth entry in the Insidious series has out-earned the entire domestic lifetime of The Curse of La Llorona, the 2019 spin-off widely regarded as the softest performer in the ten-film Conjuring Universe.

The numbers, per Box Office Mojo, aren't spectacular on their own. On its third Thursday in theatres, the film pulled in $418,000, down 48.6% from the Thursday before. That's a steep drop, the kind that usually signals a picture on its way out. But steady week-over-week decay is exactly how horror films this cheap to make tend to close out their theatrical window. Out of the Further has now banked $57.2 million domestically, and trade estimates have it crossing $60 million by the end of this weekend.

For context, The Curse of La Llorona took its entire theatrical life to land at $54.7 million in North America. That film is generally considered the low bar of the Conjuring Universe, spun off from that franchise's mythology rather than built inside it, and it never quite found the audience Warner Bros. And New Line were banking on. Out of the Further has passed it with three weeks still on the clock and a weekend still to add to the tally.

Worldwide, the film released on August 21 and is tracking toward $150 million, a number that would put it comfortably ahead of most mid-tier horror sequels released this year. Whether it gets there depends on how much international appetite is left, since the domestic leg is clearly slowing down and theatres will start handing its screens over to newer releases in the coming days.

The comparison to Conjuring Universe numbers matters mostly because Insidious and Conjuring have spent over a decade being treated as rival horror franchises, both built out of the same low-budget, high-return playbook that Blumhouse and New Line perfected. Beating even the weakest Conjuring entry domestically is a small bragging point, not a franchise-altering one, but in a genre where studios greenlight sequels on exactly this kind of arithmetic, it's the sort of number that gets a sixth Insidious into a pitch meeting faster.

What happens next is straightforward trade math. Out of the Further loses screens through September as the multiplex calendar fills up with newer titles, and its final domestic number will likely land somewhere between $62 and $65 million once the drop-off stabilises. The worldwide count is the one still worth watching, given how close it already is to that $150 million marker with international numbers yet to fully settle.
