Hana Kuraki, one of Japan's best-known adult film performers, died by suicide on September 12 at her Tokyo residence. She was 25. Bollywood Shaadis reported the death citing multiple unnamed accounts, and said the apartment where she was found belonged to club owner Sakito, who had leased it to her boyfriend, Shota Taira.

Neither Tokyo police nor Hana's management have issued an official statement on the cause of death or confirmed the circumstances, so much of what's circulating right now sits in the grey zone between reported and verified.

Conflicting accounts of who found her

Early reports suggested Sakito discovered the body himself. He pushed back on that in a social media post, saying it was Hana's friends who found her and then reached out to him for help navigating the aftermath, including dealing with the police. "I am deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the passing of Hana Kuraki. I offer my sincere condolences," he wrote.

Sakito also asked people to stop speculating. "I hope that no further harm comes to the deceased or those around her through misinformation or speculation. I also hope for a world free of people who use violence to control others or drive them to such desperate straits," he said, a line that reads, given everything else being reported, like it's pointed at someone specific.

The relationship, and the money

According to a report by Inside Japan cited by Bollywood Shaadis, Hana had told people close to her that her boyfriend, four years older and reportedly one of her highest-spending clients, controlled her earnings entirely. She is said to have felt trapped, partly because he knew where her family lived. The same report claims she described ongoing physical abuse and threats. None of this has been independently confirmed by authorities, and the allegations remain just that, allegations, pending whatever the police investigation turns up.

Leaked police documents referenced in the reporting allege that an earlier injury Hana suffered, one she had publicly blamed on a traffic accident, actually came from an incident involving her boyfriend accelerating a car as she was getting in, dragging her along the pavement. That claim, too, is unverified.

A career cut short mid-comeback

Hana debuted in the adult industry in 2024 with a title translated as Please Watch My 22 Years And All About Sex, and quickly became one of the field's highest earners, reportedly pulling in close to USD 1.8 million a year. In June 2026, she announced a sudden break, citing severe facial and jaw injuries. "I've decided to take a break for a while, so I'll be suspending activities for a certain period. I do want to keep up with filming if I can," she wrote at the time, without naming a cause. She was reportedly still expected to appear at an adult industry expo in Taiwan later this year.

What happens next depends entirely on Tokyo police, who are yet to confirm any of the specifics being reported around her death or open comment on Shota Taira. Until they do, the fuller picture stays incomplete.
