Jimmy Hurdstrom is saddling up again. Jefferson White will reprise his Yellowstone role in a recurring capacity for Season 2 of Marshals, the CBS spinoff that's already turned into one of the network's biggest scripted hits, according to Variety, Deadline and TheWrap.

The news came out of CBS's 2026 virtual press day, and it slots White in next to Luke Grimes, who carries the show as Kayce Dutton. Grimes plays a cowboy turned Navy SEAL turned US Marshal working Montana out of an elite unit, and Season 2 is set to push the story into new territory. Literally. Texas, specifically.

Here's the connective tissue. On Yellowstone, Jimmy got shipped off to the 6666 Ranch in Texas after breaking a promise to John Dutton, and he ended up building a life there as a horse trainer under Travis Wheatley, the character Taylor Sheridan plays himself. Deadline reports that Marshals Season 2 will actually send Kayce's son Tate, played by Brecken Merrill, into Texas too, after a Wall Street-trader-turned-rancher named Tom Weaver takes the kid bass fishing while circling a purchase of the Duttons' East Camp. So the geography lines up. How exactly Jimmy gets folded into that thread is still unclear, and none of the three trade reports spell it out.

White himself sounds pleased about it. "I'm thrilled to dive into the world of 'Marshals' and continue exploring the American West," he said in a statement carried across the coverage. "The cast and crew are stacked full of my favorite actors and filmmakers, and I'm honored to join them. Jimmy and I have been through a lot together, and I can't wait to see what's next for us."

He's not the only Yellowstone name showing up. Grimes, Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty round out the returning faces, alongside newer additions like Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos and Tatanka Means.

Marshals didn't need long to prove itself. CBS renewed it for a second season inside two weeks of its premiere, and TheWrap notes the show has been pulling in an average 19.3 million viewers in delayed Nielsen numbers, enough to push past Tracker as the top scripted show on broadcast television.

Off Yellowstone, White has kept busy. Civil War, Eileen with Anne Hathaway, and upcoming turns as Lee Harvey Oswald in November 1963 and opposite Noah Centineo in Rambo are all on his slate.

Season 2 of Marshals premieres October 4 on CBS, streaming a day later on Paramount+. What's still open is how the writers actually get Jimmy from a Texas ranch back into a story built around federal marshals in Montana, and that's the detail fans will be watching for once the premiere drops.
