Jitin Gulati isn't saying no to a Maa sequel. He's just not saying yes either.

Asked point-blank about reports of a follow-up to last year's Kajol-starrer horror film, the actor turned the question back on the people who'd actually have an answer. "For that, you should check with either Devgn Films or Vishal Furia sir. They would be able to confirm," he told Bollywood Hungama in an exclusive interview. He followed it with the line doing all the work here: "There's always a possibility because stories like these lend themselves to different versions. However, the makers would know better."

So, no confirmation. No denial either. That's where Maa 2 stands right now, at least as far as one of its own cast members is willing to go on record.

Gulati played a cop in Maa, which released in 2025 and turned into a decent theatrical earner before finding a second life on Netflix. He credits the film with genuinely helping his career, given the company he was suddenly keeping. "Maa had Kajol, and now I have worked with Akshaye Khanna and Prabhas in Mahakali and Fauzi, respectively, that always helps," he said. "A large number of people watch these films and, because of them, actors like me also get noticed."

On working with Kajol specifically, he pushed back on her reputation for being difficult. "No. She's very true to herself and people view it as being intimidating," he said. "But she's literally very easy to work with and she's very genuine as a person. For her, black is black. Because she doesn't mince her words, people find that intimidating. Otherwise, she's a joy to work with."

Gulati's own slate right now is unusually big for someone still best known in Hindi cinema for supporting parts in shows like Bambai Meri Jaan and films like Broken But Beautiful. He's currently shooting Fauzi opposite Prabhas, and he's also part of Mahakali alongside Akshaye Khanna, both pan-India productions with reach well beyond the Hindi belt. He's not treating that as the ceiling either. "I am not limiting myself to Bollywood," he said. "As we speak, I am chasing work in Tamil, Malayalam and other regional cinema as well. Wherever there is good work and a good director, I want to be a part of that."

There's also a Hindi project he's already shot part of, one he's calling his first lead role in the language. Gulati expects to wrap it later this year or early next, with a release pegged for 2027. He didn't name the film or the director, only that he's "quite kicked about it."

For now, the bigger story stays parked with Ajay Devgn's production house and director Vishal Furia. Whether Maa gets a sequel, and when anyone's willing to say so on record, is still an open question.
