The actress admitted she still catches glimpses of a little boy in her now teenage son while sharing her hopes and fears for the man he is becoming.
Kajol turned to Instagram to mark her younger child Yug Devgan's 16th birthday, and the post reads less like a celebrity caption and more like a mother talking to herself out loud.
She wrote about how disorienting it is to watch a child become someone taller, stronger, almost unrecognisable, and yet not. In her words, she still sees the "little boy" layered underneath the young man Yug is turning into. That's the kind of line that lands because every parent has said some version of it, even if they don't have twenty million followers reading along.
The photo she chose says as much as the text. Yug is caught mid-moment, planting a kiss on his mother, no posed smile, nothing staged for the camera. Kajol has built a reputation for this kind of unfiltered family content, and this one fits the pattern.
What's more interesting is the second half of her note. Instead of the usual birthday platitudes, Kajol laid out what she actually hopes for him, courage, grace, kindness, the basics that don't sound like much until you realise they're the hardest things to actually raise a teenager toward. She signed off telling him to "fly high and live large," adding, "Love you more than you will ever know."
Yug has picked up a bit of a reputation of his own among fans who track the Devgan family online, the informal title of mama's boy, earned through repeated sightings at festivals and public outings where he's visibly glued to his mother's side. Kajol hasn't discouraged that read. If anything, she leans into it, treating both her children, Yug and elder daughter Nysa, as proof that she raised them to think independently rather than live in anyone's shadow, hers or her husband Ajay Devgn's.
She's said as much in past interviews too, that watching Nysa and Yug grow into distinct, opinionated people matters more to her than watching them follow a script laid out by famous parents.
None of this is a film announcement or a box office update. It's just a mother marking a birthday in public, the way she has done for years now. But it's also a small window into how Kajol talks about motherhood when she isn't promoting anything, unguarded, a little anxious, mostly proud.
Yug turns 16 this year. What he does with the next few years of growing up in public, largely on his own terms so far, is anyone's guess.
