Kody Brown's reality television run is over, and so, apparently, is his marriage's TV run. TLC's trailer for Season 21 of "Sister Wives" opens with a card that does the talking neither Kody nor Robyn Brown wanted to: "After 16 years of filming Sister Wives, Kody & Robyn will not be returning to the show."

That's it. No sit-down interview, no goodbye montage, no reps issuing statements. Page Six reported that neither Kody's team nor TLC responded to requests for comment. Neither Kody nor Robyn appears anywhere in the trailer itself.

The timing has a small wrinkle. Page Six pegged the trailer's release as a Thursday drop. Just Jared dated it to Monday, September 14. OK! Magazine simply noted the date without naming the day. Whatever the day was, the effect is the same: sixteen years of one family's marriage, laid out on cable television since the show's 2010 premiere, is done as a filmed thing.

The ex-wives didn't know either

What's odd is that Kody's three former wives seem just as blindsided as the audience. In confessionals played in the trailer, Christine Brown Woolley says flatly, "I don't know what it means. I have no idea." Janelle Brown goes further: "I was flabbergasted, really, when I got the news." Meri Brown, meanwhile, calls herself "actually surprised" that Kody and Robyn weren't coming back.

That's three women who spent decades married to the man reacting like it's news to them too, which tells you TLC didn't exactly workshop this exit with the family.

Robyn had been Kody's only wife left standing. Christine split from him in 2021 after 25 years together and six kids, and remarried David Woolley in 2023. Janelle ended things in 2022 after 30 years and six children of her own, and has since gone public with a man named Pete. Meri, married to Kody legally from 1990 to 2014 before he wed Robyn, called it off in 2023 and is now with someone named Rob. Both Meri and Robyn, per OK! Magazine, have separately filed with the church to formally end their spiritual marriages to Kody.

Kody's estrangement from a chunk of his 18 children has also been a recurring thread on the show, culminating last season in what he's called an "apology tour," which other cast members reportedly told him should have included his kids, not just his exes.

What the trailer does show

Without Kody or Robyn in frame, the new season leans hard on the three ex-wives. The trailer teases them reuniting for meetups described as awkward, melting down jewelry Kody once gave them, arguing over a land deal, and talking through their current relationships.

Why Kody and Robyn are actually gone remains unexplained. No divorce filing, no health issue, no falling-out with production has been cited by any outlet reporting on it, and both parties have stayed silent.

Season 21 of "Sister Wives" premieres Sunday, October 4, at 10 p.m. ET on TLC. Whether Kody addresses any of this before then, on the show or off it, is the only real question left hanging.
